Testing the Hypothesis

1) Pick an opportunity you would like to pursue.
- The opportunity to make an affordable/convenient way for students to get a variety of good quality food, with a basic instruction process on how to make it.
2) Clearly state the opportunity you have identified, including the who, what, why.
  • The who:
College Students
  • The what:
They are unable to easily, efficiently make or afford food that has enough nutrients for their body to absorb on a daily basis
  • The why:
They don't have the time to go grocery shopping and/or they do not know how to cook
3) This is your 'hypothesis' about the opportunity. It is a statement of your belief related to an opportunity. I'd like you to test the boundaries of the hypothesis by pushing and prodding each of the three elements. That means:
  • Testing the who: Are there others who have this need? Or, does everyone in your current 'who' share the need?
Yes, this company would operate for anyone who doesn't have the time to do grocery shopping or lacks cooking skills
  • Testing the what: What are the boundaries of the need?
All grocery stores that people are used to using. People that are comfortable eating junk food instead of having a balanced diet
  • Testing the why: Not everyone will perceive their need the same way; here, I'd like you to test the boundaries of the 'why' -- for the people who have the need you have identified, what are the range of whys that they offer? Does the "why" you have identified hold for everyone?
Yes, the why accounts for most of the college students I have met. They really don't know how to cook or what to buy when they enter a grocery store.
4) In Part 1, you must interview five people. These interviews must be long enough for you to get the information you need. In these interviews, you want to ask questions that try to capture the variation in the whos, whats, and whys, and your objective is to test the boundaries of your opportunity hypothesis.

All five found the company amazing and they would definitely try it out. They all have the same problem and they said it was a great idea on fixing that specific problem.
I realized a new thing about my opportunity. Chris Dume said that it needed to be a 24-hour service 7 days a week for it to work. I believe that is not fully correct because we are online and there needs to be a controlled schedule of all the customers ordering their packets.

  1. David,

I think that you provided a good hypothesis. It was similar to something I proposed because it is an issue that is going around the United States when it comes to eating healthier and having food options. It is unfortunate but it is what it is. Thank you for your insight!
